SODABOY
(TopShelf Muzzik Entertainment)

Now days it’s difficult for a premier artist, not to mention an up and coming Hip Hop artist. In today’s entertainment error where an act has to be new, different and/or fresh an artist has to be creative. You have to have perseverance, a passion for your craft, drive and most important great music. You have to be born for the spotlight made for the business and appealing to an audience to become a successful artist, let alone a prosperous businessman. You have to have the swagger, the look, lyrics and play the part of a rapper breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You have to eat, sleep and you all know the rest of this here rap game.

And that’s exactly what the Midwest raised down South resider “SodaBoy” brings to the Hip Hop world. The self proclaimed ‘Midwest Mayor’ is just what the industry and listeners wanted, needed and asked for. A breath of fresh air. That new new to be exact. New city, new state, new style, new vibe, new market, and a fresh face. With his Midwest player attitude and a chromatic flow that compliments their whole creed of living. East Coast lyrical content with smash mouth punch lines and hidden metaphors wrapped that with down south swagger west coast slang and a stage presence giving off energy that your local power company can’t supply. This ‘Minnesota Viking’ is the perfect package to be today’s rap star. The women love him and the men respect him.

Now living in Atlanta, ga for the past four years after coming back and forth for a period of time Ramon Downs p.k.a. ‘SodaBoy’ was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A Small town with all the essentials of a big city located in the Midwest region dubbed “Murda-Apolis “ a city where the average dude is striving to be the most respected gangster in the gang infested streets and neighborhoods of Minneapolis/St. Paul. And the women hustle the strip clubs. The dope boys get it, but the gangstas get the respect, “Says Soda”. I wasn’t the biggest drug dealer around, I mean I worked it before, I didn’t want to be super thug because those cats was dieing daily. “Ramon got his another way”, I was a jack of all trades, but my bread and meat was being a “Stick up Kid” it was a gift and curse.”

“Birthed as a product of a rape to a dope fiend of 24 yrs to this date and having never met his biological father, Ramon turned to the life of crime and disobedience at an early age. With no since of direction doing everything he could do to survive and teach himself how to become a man he fell victim to the system. As did both of his parents in his up bringing. That was at 9 yrs old”. It’s a cold world out here, I came in messed up, but through it all I kept the passion for becoming an entertainer. “The rough neck outspoken ladies man stated in an earlier interview”. I was turned out by LL Cool J’s I’m Bad, but Too Short made me really want to rap. “Starting at group homes and institutions and later prison, not till his last stint did ‘SodaBoy’ get serious about his life and future”. I asked god for a new start, this is what he gave me, I’m blessed, all my real homies are dead or locked up, it’s about me now. I know where I’m going in life as an artist/business man.

“So if everything happens for a reason, so did SodaBoy life story. Upon being released from his last sentence Soda independently Recorded, Marketed, Promoted and distributed his first full works the mixtape titled “Da Game Needs Me”. This mixtape set the stage for a promising career. With all original tracks, the 17 track disc brought immediate inquiries. The well seasoned rapper took and used styles of past and present artists and proved he could spit like the best of them. The success was not a shock. “People always knew I could rap, I’ve never been told I was garbage or my flow wasn’t tight. They always asked why I wasn’t on”. Says Soda in a very cocky but confident manner. He managed to move a few thousand copies throughout the Midwest and that’s what landed him in Atlanta performing for a local DJ’s birthday party. “I am the Terrence Howard of this rap game, it’s all hustle and flow. I didn’t have any inside plugs no team or even a budget. It was all me, I believed in me so I went hard at it 10 Toes Down To the Ground”.

The pay off to his hard work landed him a worldwide digital and retail distribution deal with Affluent Records (A true indepent) Entertainment Company through his own imprint TopShelf Muzzik. “I know what I need to be a successful force and I wanted the people/fans to get first hand with the real truth”. Both sides, I’m not balling but I’m straight. I’m on the come up, I haven’t came up yet. I make music that everyone can feel, especially people who struggling or on the come up. I don’t really care about the ones who on, they don’t care about us, so we got to stick together. That’s why I do my own thing and why I started my own company, it’s self explanatory ‘TopShelf’ that’s where we at and belong.

Now days you can find Sodaboy working hard in the studio and promoting his debut full length LP still untitled scheduled for a 2009 release. I’m excited not nervous, I was born for this. The question is do we have fans ready for a new favorite rapper. “I get to show the world that there’s more to the Midwest than Detroit and Chicago, yes we all thank them for breaking great ground and putting us on the map but I represent us as a whole. I’m talking from Minnesota to Omaha to Desmoines, IA from Gary, Ind to Oklahoma to Toledo and back down to Kansas and up to Milwaukee and everything else in-between, We’re here this is our story”.

With SodaBoy’s digital Ep titled “Midwest Mayor” already making noise and available at all online digital music stores (I.e. itunes, mtraks, Amazon etc…) the people are sure to appoint Sodaboy to be “Midwest Mayor” “VOTE SODABOY 2009”
